Tan Meng Hooi

Artistic Director

With nearly 17 years of teaching experience, Ms. Tan specialises in training both children and adults in classical ballet and contemporary dance. As a registered RAD teacher, she is committed to nurturing technical excellence and artistry in my students.

Since founding Firstpointe School of Dance in 2015, she has served as its Artistic Director, choreographing and producing annual performances, including Poise 2018, Espoir 2021, Transcend I 2022, Nutcracker Reimagined 2023, and Transcend II 2024.

My choreography has earned prestigious awards, including:

  • Most Outstanding TroupeHong Kong Challenge Cup 2019 & Masterpiece 2021
  • First PlaceYouth America Grand Prix (YAGP) Virtual 2025
  • FinalistYAGP 2025 (Tampa) & World Ballet Competition 2024 (Orlando)

She has also trained soloists for top tiers competitions such as YAGP, World Ballet Competition, Masterpiece, HK Challenge Cup, and Indonesia Dance Prix, with many gaining international recognition. Her passion lies in developing the next generation of dancers, helping them achieve their fullest potential on both local and global stages

Eva Tey

Principal

Eva Tey, Principle dancer from Maya Dance Theatre since January 2015. She graduated with a First Class Honor, (BA) Degree in dance from Lasalle College of the Arts in May 2014. She learned Ballet since she was 7 years old and has completed her RAD Intermediate exam. She exposed to Contemporary dance when she entered Lasalle College of the Arts. Eva has been learning Bharatanatyam under the guidance of Miss Kavitha Krishnan, Mr Ajith Bhaskar and Miss Laskhmi Krishnan. She is experienced in pre-school and special needs programme facilitation and conducts community programmes. She is a PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique) certified teacher since the year 2021.

Eva believes in “ Dance to Connect ; Move to Heal”. She is interested in using dance as a therapy to connect with people.

Jason Carter

Senior Ballet Instructor

Jason began his dance training in the RAD syllabus, receiving distinction in Advanced 2, before studying full time at New Zealand School of Dance where he graduated with a Diploma in Dance.
Upon graduation, he pursued his professional career at Singapore Ballet (formerly Singapore Dance Theatre) in 2012. He was promoted to the rank of Soloist in 2017 and has been teaching adult ballet classes ever since then.
Throughout his career with the company, he has performed in many ballets within the company's repertoire and has worked with many renowned choreographers such as Val Caniparoli, Ma Cong, Timothy Harbour and Nils Christe. He has taken on principal and featured roles in both Classical and Contemporary ballets and some of these roles include Albrecht in Giselle, Mercutio and Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet, Benno in Swan Lake, Bittersweet by Natalie Weir, Incomparable Beauty by Ma Cong, Ibsen's House by Val Caniparoli and Phlegmatic in The Four Temperaments by George Balanchine.

Lynnette Png

Ballet & Contemporary Dance Instructor

A graduate from School of the Arts, Singapore, Lynnette is well trained in Ballet, contemporary and Chinese dance. She’s been trained by renowned dance professionals such as Jeffrey Tan, Cheah Mei Sing and Silvia Yong. In 2011, she joined The Human Expression Second dance company and has performed in multiple performances locally, such as LiTHE and M1 Contact dance festival. She has also performed overseas in Kuala Lumpur dance festival. She achieved championship in The Royal Dance Off competition in 2013 under the group category.

Joanna Oh

Senior Ballet Instructor

Joanna is a registered teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD). She is experienced in teaching the Graded and Vocational syllabus. Besides Classical Ballet, she is well exposed in other dance genres such as Contemporary and Jazz.

Ng Zu You

Contemporary Dance Instructor

Zu You started dance at the age of 13, training in classical Chinese and folk dance. To further pursue his passion, he enrolled in LASALLE College of Arts, graduating with a Diploma in Dance. In 2017, he also completed a BA in Dance from Taipei University of Arts. Zu You worked as a dance artist with T.H.E Dance Company from 2017-2022.

 

Stefanie Teo

Ballet/Jazz Instructor
Diploma in Dance

Stefanie Teo began her dance journey at the age of 3 with the Royal Academy of Dance ballet syllabus. She has since been involved in various youth dance groups, receiving the tutelage of Melissa Ng, Fiona Thng, and Zaini Mohd Tahir.

Stefanie holds a Diploma in Dance from LASALLE College of the Arts, and has had the opportunity to work with renowned choreographers such as Eisa Jocson, Ery Mefri, Rachel Lopez de la Nieta, Kuik Swee Boon, Dapheny Chen, Susan Yeung, Susan Sentler, Bernice Lee and Jenny Neo. She was the recipient of the Wu Peihui Dance Award for the 2019/2020 academic year, and joined T.H.E Dance Company’s Training Initiative in 2021.
She is currently experimenting with various dance methodologies to further develop her movement articulation and embodiment.

Loi Ly Shan

Ballet Instructor

Loi Ly Shan began her RAD ballet and contemporary dance training when she was 11 and 16, respectively, receiving guidance from Ms Tan Meng Hooi, Ms Goh Jia Yin and Mr Ng Zu You. In secondary school, she also had the opportunity to learn modern dance styles, including Hip Hop and Lyrical Jazz, for three years. In 2016, she and her dance mates competed with their first contemporary trio at the Get The Beat Dance (GTB) Competition, emerging 1st place for the Singapore qualifiers and the Asia finals. Since then, she has also competed as a ballet soloist at GTB Singapore 2017 (4th place), in a duet at GTB Kuala Lumpur 2017 (1st place), in a trio at Star of Canaan International Dance Competition 2021 (Gold) and several other competitions as part of the Firstpointe Performing Group from 2021 to 2023. While competing, she also completed her RAD Advanced 1 in 2018 with Firstpointe and performed at the Firstpointe annual gala nights.

With a love for dance and movement, she is driven to refine her dance techniques and to spread the joy of dancing to younger kids.

Elyn See

Ballet/Contemporary Instructor

Elyn See started her dance training in Singapore at 6, training in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz and Chinese Dance. She has been under the tutelage of Artistic Director Tan Meng Hooi since she was 12 and has completed her RAD exams until Advanced 2. She has trained under renowned dance professionals like Vincent McCloskey and Vive Khamsingsavath.

Elyn furthered her dance studies in Contemporary Dance at NYU Tisch School of the Arts during the summer of 2022, and the NEXT Choreography programme at Siobhan Davies Studios in London.

Elyn has won numerous group and individual awards at international and national dance competitions in the Ballet and Contemporary categories. While studying for a Computer Science degree at UCL, she was an active choreographer and dancer in her university's dance club, bagging top prizes and choreography awards at UK-wide dance competitions.

Elyn hopes to create a safe and open environment in her classes for movement exploration and self-expression, enabling every dancer to find their own unique way of dancing.

Melody Lock

Ballet Instructor

Melody Lock began her ballet training at the age of 4 and soon after started her contemporary dance training. Throughout her training, she has had the opportunity to receive guidance from Ms Tan Meng Hooi, Mr Jackie Ong, and Ms Maybelle Lek.

In 2014 she began her competitive career as a soloist and has since gone on to win multiple awards, including Get The Beat Dance Competition (GTB) Singapore 2015 (1st Place), GTB Asia Finals 2016 (1st Place), GTB Singapore 2018 (Teen Top 5 Gala Performer) and Masterpiece International Ballet Competition (MIBC) 2019 (100% Scholarship) to name a few notable examples. She also has won several awards with the Firstpointe Performing Group such as the MIBC 2021 (Grand Prix Award). In school, she was given the opportunity to choreograph for the Singapore Youth Festival, and within the same year, she completed her RAD Advanced 2 ballet examination.
